Jack Palance

It is on this day of remembrance for our veterans that we must also remember a truly phenomenal actor, Jack Palance, who died of natural causes at 87. The man seemed tailor made for the Western genre and won an Oscar for his role as Curly in City Slickers.

As written in the LA Times:

When World War II came, he served in the Army Air Forces. A bomber pilot who had seen little action, he was at the controls when his plane lost an engine and slammed nose-first into the ground. He suffered severe head injuries and required extensive facial reconstruction.

"There are some moments you never get over," Palance said in 1995. "That was one of them."

Jack Palance was warm and talented, courageous and tenacious. Please join me today in remembering this veteran and actor. The library owns many of his films.
