New Book Spotlight

My first pick is the catalogue for the exhibition of the same name, currently showing at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art: Magritte and contemporary art : the treachery of images. His surrealistic paintings play with our expectations, as when his super-realistic image of a pipe is paired with the seemingly contradictory text, "This is not a pipe." I could pour over this book for hours, but I will return to work and leave that honor to you. It is here to whet your appetite for your subsequent trip to the museum! This book is a tall one, so you'll find it in the Extra Oversize shelves.

Whether you want a splash of color or prefer the simplicity of black and white, House beautiful color workshop : decorating stylish rooms is for you. This book seamlessly combines color theory and decorating style to give you plenty of ideas for your home makeover.

While there are many good books out there meant to offer financial advise, this one caught my eye because of its unique perspective. Your money map : a proven 7-step guide to true financial freedom was written by Howard Dayton, CEO of Crown Financial Ministries. He discusses how to line up a person's finances with basic Christian principles, pointing out that "the Bible contains 2,350 verses on how to handle money and possessions". If such a book sounds beneficial to you, look for it on the New Book shelves.
