Becket with Peter O'Toole.

I see that the Nuart movie theatre in Santa Monica is showing for one week only the marvelous 1964 film Becket starring Peter O'Toole and Richard Burton. This film has received restoration work which should make it a visual treat to see on the big screen. Even better news is that Becket is finally to be released on DVD this summer. I assure you that I will hound our AV staff until they purchase the DVD for the library's collection. Becket received 12 Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, 2 Best Actor nominations for both O'Toole and Burton and Best Supporting Actor for John Gielgud. This is a film that the old cliche "they don't make like this anymore" truly fits. The Nuart Theatre is located at 11272 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, CA, 90025.

If you want to do a Peter O'Toole Best Actor weekend film fest, see Becket and then find a theatre playing his new movie Venus which just earned O'Toole his 8th Best Actor nomination. Personally, I hope he wins Best Actor this year, otherwise he will become the all-time leader with 8 acting nominations without winning an Oscar.
