Masada to be released on DVD!

While I am pretty sure [I have already recommended this to AV staff...hint, hint!!] that the library will buy a copy of Masada, I just had to celebrate this upcoming September 11, DVD release! I have been waiting a long time for a chance to own [yes I'll be buying this one] this fabulous 1981 mini-series. Perhaps a bit overshadowed by it's fellow 1981 mini-series "The Thornbirds", the gripping saga of the Roman empire vs. Jewish Zealots finally will see the light of day. Fabulous acting by all [Peters Strauss, Anthony Quayle, Barbara Carrera and Emmy award winner David Warner], but fans of Peter O'Toole will want to watch this performance, one of his best. Masada is not to be missed and fans may want to read the novel The Antagonists by Ernest Gann upon which the TV mini-series is based. For other books on the real life Jewish rebelion during this time, please click here.
Flavius Silva, commander in Roman Palestine, wants to reach a reasonable compromise with the Jewish Zealots and withdraw his legion. Events and personalities in Rome, however, lead to his besieging the fortress of Masada. There the engineering genius of the Romans must fight both the harsh climate and landscape, and the passion and ingenuity of Eleazar Ben
Yair and his people.
