What We're Reading: I Like You

You may know Amy Sedaris as the sister of David Sedaris. Or, you may know her as Jerri of the television show Strangers with Candy. Either way, you should know her, as she's a very funny lady. And guess what? She can entertain, too, and she'd like to show you how. Her new book, I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence, is filled with delightful themed meals and helpful advice that you won't get anywhere else. If you plan to invite some lumberjacks into your house, she'll give you some handy gift ideas (ax guard) and lunch ideas (Crosscut stump stew, recipe provided). Of course, there are more common and practical scenarios here as well. She goes into depth about the proper planning of a child's party, for instance:

"As far as I'm concerned, children's parties don't really matter until the children are at least five. This is the age that gifts count. Children before that age are too young to understand the concept of presents. You can gift wrap a head of cabbage and give it to a two-year-old and they won't know the difference."

If you're looking for an entertaining read (no pun intended) that will provide you with some wonderful recipes, look no further. It's also available as an audiobook, but I find this to be a very confusing format choice for something that is half cookbook.

I love this book, there are great recipes and pictures. FYI, her character in Strangers with Candy was named Jerri, not Candy

Ah, thanks for pointing that out! I need to learn to slow down a bit when I write. Thanks again!
