Teen Book Clubs

The "new year" of book club meetings is about to begin! Middle School Book Club, which meets once a month on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m., will have its first meeting next week on Wednesday, August 26. Our summer book was The Amulet of Samarkand, first book in the Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud, which we will discuss at this meeting. This club is for teens in 6th, 7th and 8th grades.

High School Book Club, which meets once a month on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m., will begin the year's meetings on Tuesday, September 1, and our summer book for discussion is Deerskin, by Robin McKinley. This club is for teens in 9th-12th grades.

We still have copies of our summer books available, so if you'd like to join us for a year of reading, go to the Reference Desk of any Burbank Public Library and sign up! Then ask your teen librarians (Melissa at Central or Anarda at Buena Vista) for a copy of the book. Or you can call 818.238.5589. Free books, new friends, food and fun are waiting for you...

Dear book club members
Can you imagine reading of an undersea adventure as exciting the Harry Potter and as mystical as The Lord of The Rings ? Then I would like to request that you consider
The Tempest's Roar as one of your next book club choices. This wonderful epic has been the choice of several book clubs - most recently The Tuesday Morning Book Club which was featured in People magazine and the Boston Globe. They are part of the Oasis Coalition, a wonderful organization that is worth your reading about.(

Please go to to find out about the author, his blog on saving sea mammals and read exerpts from this special book.

Reading can be one of our greatest joys and most enlightening endeavors. We hope that not only will this be an entertaining book, but that it will also be an awakening to the dangers our seas and those that live in them are facing.

Best of luck-
Geri Clouston
