Best Books of 2009: Too Much Happiness

It's that time of year again, and your friendly neighborhood librarians are eager to tell you about the best books of 2009. Here is Elizabeth with a review of her favorite book of the year.

Too Much Happiness by Alice Munro

With her inimitable style, Alice Munro artfully crafts ten short stories that are as disquieting as they are entrancing. I particularly like her depictions of female characters, and the quiet strength she gives to them, even through seemingly insurmountable situations. Even though death lurks, there seems to always be a sense of hope, veiled though it is.
