What We're Reading - The Lion & The Mouse.

OK, reading perhaps is a not quite what one does with The Lion & The Mouse by Jerry Pinkney as it is a wordless picture book asides from a few "roars" and "squeaks" written on its pages.

That said, this book, which was just awarded the 2010 Randolph Caldecott Award for illustration is a visual treat that parents will want to share with their preschoolers and truth be told, anyone who appreciates the beauty of art and the power that illustrations can convey in storytelling absolutely must seek this out!
Pinkney has for years been one of the best illustrators in the field and has received many honors for his work. Frankly, having been a Caldecott honor runnerup 5 times in the past, it is about time that Pinkney won the Caldecott Medal itself and you'll be amazed at his marvelous pencil, water color and colored pencil work retelling the Aesop fable of a mouse who disturbs a Lion from his rest, and the life changing decision made by the Lion. Well if Mr. Pinkney had to wait to produce this book to finally win, it truly resulted in an especially beautiful book that was worth the wait and well worth the award!
