Thursday evenings from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm
Starts – March 4 (Thursday)
Ends – March 25 (Thursday)

Families from the Burbank community are invited to attend ‘Family Mealtime Literacy Nights’ every Thursday evening from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm at McDonald’s, 1127 N San Fernando Blvd.

Bring your favorite children’s book and share it with other families.
Each family will receive books from McDonald’s along with tips on ways to continue improving their family’s literacy skills.

Since October 2006, NCFL and the Southern California McDonald’s Restaurants have teamed up for the highly successful Family Mealtime Literacy Nights. The program is designed to show parents of preschoolers how they can use simple household routines to teach literacy, math and science to their children. These fun and interactive workshops not only allow families special time to spend together, but they also improve school readiness for children and increase parents’ excitement to support their children’s learning.

Each 90-minute weekly interactive session brings preschool aged children and their parents together during dinnertime to learn and support each other in efforts to improve their reading, writing and thinking skills. The sessions are taught in both English and Spanish, by trainers from the National Center for Family Literacy. There is a different topic each week: phonological awareness, math, reading, science and storytelling.

Studies have shown that family mealtime contributes to children’s vocabulary and early literacy skills and the key to long-term academic success.
