Library Funds Missing? Who You Gonna Call??

New York Public Library patrons were startled to see three "ghosts" flitting around the 100-year-old reading room recently. Remember the opening scene in the 1984 film "Ghostbusters?"

Facing the worst budget cuts in their history, the New York Public Library took an innovative approach to their plight. With funding cuts of nearly $37 million, the library is looking at closing ten libraries, cutting the hours at the remaining branches, and pink-slipping 736 staff members. Concerned supporters are urging the public to contact their elected officials and donate to the cause.

Enter the "ghostbusters." Improv Everywhere was brought in to stage a reinactment of the iconic film as a way to publicize the NYPL's "Don't Close the Book" campaign.
