Celebrate the 4th of July!

How can you celebrate our nation's 234th birthday on July 4th?

You could watch my favorite Independence Day movie, the musical, 1776. Wonderful performances from many of the original Broadway cast and especially, the three leads [William Daniels (John Adams), Ken Howard (Thomas Jefferson) and Howard Da Silva (Benjamin Franklin)]. Plus the wonderful art direction and costumes enhance this story of the events leading to the Declaration of Independence. In my opinion, this is an underrated movie, too often overlooked.

If you like the movie, the Library owns the 1776 soundtrack on CD from the 1997 Broadway revival of the show for your listening pleasure.

Reading offers many potential pleasures from One day in history--July 4, 1776 to the wonderful David McCullough book 1776 and many more books for all ages on the Declaration of Independence or Fourth of July.
Whatever Library choices you make we wish you a very happy and safe Independence Day Holiday!
