Picture Book Spotlight - Transportation themed edition.

Once again, I've been working on adding new copies of older titles into our Picture Book collection, and a pair of transportation-related books demanded I share them with you.

First up is the charming The Adventures of Taxi Dog, by Debra and Mark Barracca, with pictures by Mark Buehner. Colorful illustrations accompany the rhyming text telling the, tale of how stray dog Maxi came to find a new owner, ride in a taxi and encounter both people and adventures. The book has a lovely message, and is sure to please at bedtime, especially in dog-owning families. Based upon an actual encounter with a dog who rode with his owner, reading about Maxi made me think about the Burbank's Animal Shelter, where your very own Maxi might be waiting for you!

Shark Vs. Train, by Chris Barton, with illustrations by Tom Lichtenheld, is one of the silliest books I've come across in a long while [and that's a good thing!]. Two highly competitive boys each select a toy--a shark and a train--and battle for playtime supremacy; and a wild and imaginative battle it is! In the water or on land, the wonderfully over-the-top forays keep on coming, with each more silly and absurd than the last. Not to be missed are "burbing contests," "Trick-or-Treating," "piano recitals," and more. Who wins the battle for toy supremacy in Shark vs. Train? I'm not telling--you'll have to read it for yourself!
