Books and Movies Update

Here are a couple of interesting book adaptations coming to the big screen. According to Variety, Suzanne Collins is penning the screenplay of her young adult thriller, The Hunger Games, and Gary Ross (Pleasantville, Seabiscuit) will be directing.

The first in the futuristic Hunger Games trilogy, the story features 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives with her mother and younger sister in the poorest district of Panem, formerly the United States. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district must send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called "The Hunger Games."

Fans of the 1966-1971 ABC gothic daytime series Dark Shadows can look forward to a film adaptation. Deadline /Hollywood is reporting that Tim Burton's next project features Johnny Depp as the 200-year-old vampire Barnabas Collins. Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) will write the screenplay. Filming is scheduled to begin next April.
