The Best of 2011

One of the many books [old and new] enjoyed and recommended by the Burbank Public Library staff during 2011 for your consideration:

War, by Sebastian Junger

This is a companion book to the film documentary Restrepo (directed by Junger and Tim Hetherington, who was later killed during the overthrow of Kadafi in Libya) but its content is different. Both report on several trips the filmmakers took to a U.S. Army outpost in the Korangal Valley, Afghanistan, during 2007 and 2008, but while the movie focuses on external action, War is part straight reporting, part psychological research and part memoir, like Junger’s earlier work The Perfect Storm.

[The library offers this selection as both a nonfiction book and an audio book.]
