Teen book clubs are coming!

Who can believe that school is already back in session? That means teen book clubs will resume their September-to-May schedule very soon, and since we ask the teens to read a SERIES over the summer, it's time to check in NOW and make sure they all made it through and are ready to talk about their books! The Teen Services Librarians decided this year to break down the clubs a little differently, so now our three clubs are:

6+7 grades
8+9 grades
10-12 grades

This makes it much easier for the clubs to pick books of interest to a narrower age group for each club. These book clubs are for teens who want to read for pleasure outside of school--they are purely recreational in nature. The teens and the librarians collaborate to nominate and elect the books we will read, and the Friends of the Burbank Public Library buy paperback copies of the books (one per month) for club members.

The 6th- and 7th-graders will be discussing Tamora Pierce's Circle of Magic series (Sandry's Book, Tris's Book, Daja's Book, Briar's Book), and their first meeting is on Tuesday, September 18, at 7:00 p.m., at the Central Library.

The 8th- and 9th-graders will be discussing Scott Westerfeld's Midnighter series (The Secret Hour, Touching Darkness, Blue Noon), and their first meeting is on Wednesday, September 19, at 7:00 p.m., at the Buena Vista Library.

The 10-12th graders will be discussing Megan Whelan Turner's Queen's Thief series (The Thief, The Queen of Attolia, The King of Attolia, A Conspiracy of Kings), and their first meeting is on Tuesday, September 11, at 7:00 p.m., at the Buena Vista Library.

All information about the Teen Book Clubs (including dates, times, locations, and books) can be found on our website in the Teen Programs section.

Just one additional note: The 6+7 and 8+9 clubs are already full, but we do maintain a waiting list in case anyone drops out; but due to lots of graduating seniors last year (11!), we do have some room in the high school club. For more information, contact Melissa Elliott at
