What We're Reading

Dead Aim, By Joe R. Lansdale

Hap and Leonard are back at work in East Texas in this latest novella. They’ve been hired to do a little “persuading” (with “Agnes,” Hap’s favorite axe handle) of a husband who’s a bit reluctant to go through with a divorce. Unfortunately, the husband turns up dead, and the police think Hap and Leonard did it. In trying to clear their good names, Hap and Leonard come across a couple more dead bodies, and discover the real plot to cheat the wife/divorcee/widow. After some whomping and some shooting, the boys get things cleared up and Leonard (as usual) gets to go back to his vanilla cookies.

The first book in the mystery series is Savage Season. While the series can be dark, violent, and peppered with profanity and sex, the books are a lot of fun and you find yourself not being able to put them down, genuinely sad to get to the end. As always, I can’t wait for the next one.

Editor's note: I, too, have read this book, and highly recommend the Hap and Leonard series. Good stories by a terrific writer.
