Diane Gabaldon's Outlander To Be Filmed

A while back I posted that fans of Diane Gabaldon's Outlander series will finally see their favorite book brought to life on film.  It was announced that the cable network Starz had ordered 16 episodes of the series based on Gabaldon's genre-bending bestseller. Mixing romance, history, adventure and science fiction, the Outlander books have sold over 20 million copies worldwide. Sony Pictures TV is producing the series.

Of course, the question on everyone's lips was "Who's going to play Jamie Fraser," the red-haired Scottish warrior who captures the heroine's heart. Well, ask no longer. Starz officially announced that Scottish actor Sam Heughan has been cast
as Jamie.

”I am UTTERLY delighted to confirm that Sam @Heughan is cast as Jamie Fraser in #Outlander_Starz “ Diane Gabaldon said on Twitter today. Gabaldon has seen Heughan's audition tapes and is reportedly very impressed. Filming will begin in Scotland this fall and the series is expected to debut on Starz next year.

If you would like to take a look at Sam Heughan in action, check out the miniseries Island at War, available on DVD at the Burbank Public Library. It was released in 2005,and Heughan played the role of Philip Dore.  He was quite a bit younger then, but you get the idea.

An eighth novel in the Outlander series is scheduled to be released on March 25, 2014.
