On November 21, 2011, our world became noticeably dimmer. That is the day Anne McCaffrey, science fiction Grand Master, died. McCaffrey was a true science fiction legend, authoring more than 70 novels and collections during her 50+ year career.

Nearly two years later, her son, Todd, who co-authored some entries and continued her best known series about the Dragonriders of Pern, has edited a tribute to his mother entitled Dragonwriter: A Tribute to Anne McCaffrey and Pern.

Collecting remembrances from other science fiction writers, family, friends, and colleagues from other disciplines, Todd McCaffrey has created a fascinating and immensely readable homage to his mother. The entries range from professional tributes and insights into her work and its wide-ranging effects on science fiction fans to memoirs written by friends who knew Ms. McCaffrey personally. The result is a wonderful examination of the writer, her work, and the lasting effects a single life can have on our world if we are brave enough to act.

Dragonwriter: A Tribute to Anne McCaffrey and Pern will be a must-read for fans of McCaffrey and a rewarding read as well for anyone interested in gaining insight into the road traveled by a groundbreaking female writer as she shattered and reshaped perceptions from the 1950s through the end of the 20th Century.

Todd McCaffrey will be visiting the Buena Vista Branch of Burbank Public Library on Wednesday, August 7th at 7:00 PM, to talk about his mother, her work and the tribute.

He will be joined by John Goodwin, president of Galaxy Press and contributor to DragonwriterCopies of the book will be available for purchase and signing. Please join us!

This is a joint presentation by Burbank Public Library and the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society.
