Calling your attention to...

...the fact that it's John Steinbeck's 112th birthday. (No, he's not still alive.) I mention this because Google is celebrating that by displaying on its interface some lovely artwork celebrating his better known books. (Click on the arrow that has taken the place of the second "G" in "Google" to access them.)

The art has the feel of woodcuts, and also reflects the charming style of book covers of the 1930s. Click on Google today and check it out! And then consider checking out some Steinbeck for the weekend? In Twenty-five Books That Shaped America, author Thomas C. Foster talks about how The Grapes of Wrath (among others) "captured an American moment, how they influenced our perception of nationhood and citizenship, and what about them endures in the American character."
