Best of 2014: Our Canine Friends

One of the many items [old and new] enjoyed by Burbank Public Library staff during 2014, recommended for your consideration:

The Mountaintop School for Dogs and Other Second Chances, by Ellen Cooney, is a novel for those who love dogs, and the warm fuzzy feelings that come from figuring out what makes a dog happy.

Evie has been accepted by the Sanctuary, a rescue facility for troubled dogs, but she has no clue about what to do or how to train the animals. As Evie is introduced to each dog (and human) she encounters, she must figure out how to interact with each. This is a lovely story of redemption, little life lessons, and the ability to start anew.

I loved this book for its stream-of-consciousness writing and its message of hope and second chances, both animal and human.
