Story Slam!

at the

Next Monday evening, January 25, Burbank Public Library will host our first ever Story Slam. We were inspired by The Moth, which (for those of you who don't know about it) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the art and craft of story-telling. The Moth story slams are open mic events at which storytellers put their names in a hat and the people whose names are picked get to tell their story onstage. We thought it might be fun to give people in our own community a chance to tell theirs.

Story Slams give individuals the opportunity to share true, five-minute stories based on a given theme. Next Monday’s theme, “overdue,” is library-inspired, but can be explored in a number of ways; we can’t wait to hear what our storytellers come up with!

Story Slam is meant to build a community of storytellers and story lovers to help bring more stories into the world and onto the stage. Here are some storytelling tips to help you craft your tale for Story Slam.

If you don't have a story to tell, come anyway--storytellers need an audience, and an evening spent listening to stories is a good one!

Suggested age: 18+

The program will begin at 7:00 p.m., but those interested in telling their stories must sign up at 6:30. A limited number of storytellers will be randomly selected from those who signed up.

The Grove Theater is at 1100 W. Clark Avenue, in Burbank.
