All branches of Burbank Public Library are CLOSED on Sunday, May 29. and Monday May 30, to observe MEMORIAL DAY. We will resume regular hours on Tuesday, June 1.
Today is the first day to sign up yourself, your children, and your teens for Burbank Public Library's SUMMER READING PROGRAMS!
READ FOR THE WIN, and there are lots of winning activities! Kids going into grades 1-6 earn prizes for reading books and entering book reports online. Then, their session of the club meets once a week from June 13 through July 17, where they can pick up their prizes and see a one-hour show. Performers include magician Abbit the Average, Mad Science, Baba the Storyteller, Animal Magic (live animals), and ventriloquist Jim Adams. Here is a schedule for this age group.
Children going into Kindergarten and younger are welcome to participate in our Family Shows and Family Storytimes. Family Shows are professional performances geared toward younger children. Performers include Robbo, Barnyard Extravaganza, and Fantastic Patrick. Storytimes are hosted by the Children’s librarians and include songs, rhymes and stories.
GAME ON! is what we're calling the teen program, and there will be fun and games! We start off with Book Café (four sessions this summer, three of them including awesome YA authors), continue with a movie or two, a BMX stunt show, a Makerspace craft day, a Harry Potter Trivial Pursuit tournament, and wrap up the summer with our finale, HALFTIME HORROR, which is an after-hours lock-in murder mystery party at Buena Vista!
You can READ, WRITE, and WIN by keeping a reading log or writing book reviews, and you can also win prizes for being a top performer on our "Game On" Trivia Challenge, or simply by attending our programs to be entered in drawings!
(There's no obligation for signing up--you can do one thing, everything, or nothing!)
SUMMER READING FOR GROWN-UPS allows adults to track their reading, submit and share book reviews, attend great programs, movies, and concerts, and be entered in weekly prize drawings.
Some of this summer's programs include a BYOB (Brew Your Own Beer) lecture, a Summer Memories workshop, movies, and music by the Mariachi Divas. Here is a complete list of events.
