This week at the library...

Buena Vista Branch is CLOSED on Sunday, in observance of Memorial Day.

All three branches of Burbank Public Library are CLOSED in observance of Memorial Day. The library re-opens for regular hours on Tuesday.

Buena Vista Branch, 7:00 p.m.

As a continuation of the city’s Memorial Day commemoration, the Buena Vista Branch of the Burbank Public Library will host an illustrated overview of a remarkable historical treasure, the Battleship IOWA, which has been restored and is now docked permanently at the harbor in San Pedro. In 1943, the newly commissioned Iowa was the ship that took President Franklin D. Roosevelt across the Atlantic on his way to the Tehran conference with Churchill and Stalin. The IOWA now serves as a museum of U.S. Pacific Naval history and a memorial to the men who served and died on the ship. The purpose of this program is to inspire you to go down and actually view the ship, and those who come will get an orientation from Kathy Meyer of the Pacific Battleship Center that will allow them to better understand and appreciate what they will see and make the most of their visit. When you come to this free library event, you can get a coupon for a discount on admission to the museum.

This program is part of our Summer Reading Club for Grown-ups, but everyone is welcome to attend.
